Homemade Dark Chocolate
Making homemade dark chocolate is possible and super easy with only a few ingredients you might already have in your kitchen pantry. You can make your dark chocolate bar home using cocoa powder, cacao butter, a sweetener like allulose, and a little vanilla extract.
One good thing about making your chocolate at home is that you can control the taste and sweetness, unlike store-bought ones, which are often over-sweetened.
What Type Of Chocolate Is Best For Berries?
When it comes to coating berries in chocolate, especially for treats like chocolate-covered strawberries or blueberries, the type of chocolate you choose can significantly impact the flavor and texture of the final product.
Here are some options for selecting the best chocolate:
- Dark chocolate – extra deep, almost tart flavor.
- White Chocolate – super sweet, soft with a mouth feeling.
- Milk Chocolate – best mixture of both sweet and chocolaty.
Blueberries In Chocolate Toppings
While the simplicity of blueberries in chocolate is enough, try adding a creative twist with toppings. While still soft, roll them in crushed nuts, sprinkles, shredded coconut or a pinch of sea salt, which can enhance the flavor and add a delightful crunch.
For a visually appealing treat and an additional layer of sweetness, consider drizzling white melted chocolate over the chocolate-covered blueberries just like I did with my white chocolate-covered strawberries.
How To Make Chocolate Covered Blueberries Recipe
To make this recipe, follow these simple steps I prepared for you. These dark chocolate covered juicy blueberries are the best sweet treats you can share with your family and friends. You will realize that blueberries and chocolate are the best partners.
Kitchen Gadgets:
- Instant Pot: While not typically used for chocolate-covered blueberries, the Instant Pot can come in handy for melting chocolate efficiently or creating blueberry-flavored sauces.
- Sieve: Essential for washing and draining fresh blueberries before dipping them in chocolate.
- Long Tweezers or Thongs: Useful for dipping individual blueberries into the melted chocolate without making a mess and ensuring a smooth coating.
- Glass Bowl: Ideal for melting chocolate using a double boiler method, providing a smooth and even consistency.
Ingredients:
- Fresh Blueberries: Opt for plump and firm blueberries, ensuring a burst of juiciness with every bite.
- Dark Chocolate: Choose high-quality dark chocolate with a cocoa content that suits your taste preference. Dark chocolate complements the sweetness of blueberries.
- Coconut Oil: Adding a touch of coconut oil to the melted chocolate helps achieve a glossy finish and a smoother texture, making it easier to coat the blueberries evenly.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS WITH STEPS FOR BLUEBERRIES IN CHOCOLATE RECIPE
First Step: Prepare All The Ingredients
If you want to use fresh blueberries, pick those that are entirely blue or deep purple and not ripe to the touch.
I do not recommend using frozen blueberries as they are already soft and will not hold the shape.
Dark chocolate is the best choice for the chocolate coating, but you can use any high-quality chocolate bar, whether milk chocolate or white chocolate.
Wash and dry the blueberries using paper towels.

Second Step: Melt Chopped Chocolate
Chop your dark chocolate bar into tiny chunks and place the chocolate and coconut oil in a glass bowl.
Add boiling water into an Instant Pot and switch on “saute.” Place the bowl that fits in and start melting the chocolate until smooth and glossy. Stir the chocolate in the bowl regularly, thoroughly combining it with coconut oil.
You can also use other ways of melting like a double boiler or melting your chocolate in a microwave safe container.
Third Step: Coat The Blueberries
Once your chocolate is completely melted, start coating your blueberries and here are two ways how I did it:
- Dip each blueberry in the melted chocolate using long tweezers and place in a prepared tray with parchment paper.
- Pour a cup of blueberries into the melted chocolate and coat them all simultaneously. Use a sieve or small strainer to get them out and one by one place for drying.

Fourth Step: Chill
After coating the blueberries, place them in a tray with parchment paper. Make space for each berry so they won’t stick together.
Chill in the fridge until they harden and turn completely dry, then serve.
TRICKS AND TIPS:
- Chocolate – choose different types of chocolate or use any extra chunks left in your fridge.
- Dry blueberries – It is crucial to ensure your blueberries are completely dry before dipping them so the moisture will not hinder the chocolate from sticking to the berries.
- Tweezers – use a tweezer for dipping the blueberries for an easier process and to prevent the chocolate from making any mess.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I Use Chocolate Chips?
Yes, of course you can. Since you need melted chocolate for this recipe, you can melt any solid chocolate you have on hand. Chocolate chips also melt easier than chocolate bars, so it is even easier.
What to Serve With Blueberries In Chocolate?
Here are some options to serve your sweet berry treat with:
- Sprinkle on top of vanilla ice cream.
- Mix in with Greek yogurt for a dessert fiesta.
- Decorate the top of the protein cheesecake for an additional blueberry feel.
- Combine with mixed nuts for a homemade trail mix.
- Sprinkle on cranberry powder for an extra bright look.
- They are a perfect addition to your cheese platter.
- Enjoying a few pieces with your morning coffee gives you that sweet satisfaction without sweetening your espresso.
Can I Make Chocolate-Covered Dried Blueberries?
If you are a raisin lover and want to try making your berries as a snack alternative, dried blueberries in chocolate are perfect for you. Since the texture of dehydrated blueberries is like raisins, covering them with chocolate would just be divine.
It is a perfect sweet treat as dehydrated blueberries offer a chewy texture and concentrated sweetness, while the chocolate coating adds richness and indulgence.

How Do I Store Chocolate Blueberries?
If you plan to eat the chocolate-covered blueberries within a day or two, storing them at room temperature is ok. Please keep them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
For longer storage, store blueberries in the refrigerator. Place blueberries in an airtight container or on a tray covered with plastic wrap to prevent them from absorbing any odors in the fridge.
Do not store them longer than a few days, as fresh blueberries do not last for long.
While freezing can technically preserve the blueberries in chocolate, it is not recommended because the moisture from the freezer can cause the chocolate to develop a dull appearance and may affect the texture.
