From the sweet side, you can also dehydrate and mix strawberry with raspberry and blueberry chips into one perfect berry mixture for your breakfast cereals, granolas, or plain yogurt.

Savory dehydrated cucumbers, broccoli, onion flakes, dried mushrooms, dehydrated tomatoes or powders could be used for your homemade seasoning or to perfect the broth you are about to cook.

What Kind of Chicken To Use For Chicken Chips Jerky?

When making chicken chips jerky, the type of chicken you should use is debatable. Boneless skinless chicken breast meat is generally preferred due to its low-fat content and mild flavor, but some people prefer dark meat as it is more flavorful and can hold up better during drying.

If you’re looking for a leaner option, you might want to go with boneless skinless thighs instead. The key is choosing a cut with enough fat content to keep it moist during the drying process. Whatever pieces of chicken you decide to use, trim off any excess fat before drying.

You can also pick whole chicken, canned chicken, fried chicken, pouched chicken, steamed chicken, and even a Kentucky fried chicken works with this recipe.

Pressure Cooking Chicken Before Drying

Is an excellent way to cook the bird quickly and preserve its flavor. Pressure cooking helps retain more natural juices and maintains the texture of the chicken better than other methods. The pressure-cooking process helps tenderize the meat, making it easier to dry.

You can pressure-cook a fully frozen chicken in about 10 minutes.

Also, pressure cooking helps reduce bacterial contamination, so you can ensure that your food is safe. After pressure cooking, it’s essential to allow your chicken to cool down before drying it to prevent it from becoming tough or rubbery. To achieve a perfectly cooked and dried chicken, use a combination of low heat and slow drying time. This will help ensure all the flavors are locked in and provide you with a delicious meal!

Chicken Jerky Marinade

In today’s recipe, I have used plain cooked chicken strips without any seasoning. I love it because it gives me the pure taste of the chicken and protein without the need for additional flavors.

The chicken jerky marinade is an excellent way to infuse flavor into your meat and make it more tender. The marinade uses different ingredients, such as soy sauce, garlic, ginger, honey, and other spices.

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl to prepare the marinade, and add some oil. Pour this mixture over your chicken pieces and refrigerate overnight.

The marinade will give your dish an incredible flavor you won’t resist!

But as some of the jerky are pre-marinated, I would like to offer you some great suggestions:

  • soy sauce, teriyaki marinade, Worcestershire sauce, dried parsley, lemon juice, smoked salt, ground ginger, garlic powder, ground black pepper, crushed red pepper
  • Teriyaki glaze, salt, red pepper flakes, garlic, onion, paprika, honey
  • soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, honey, garlic sauce, Himalayan salt
  • barbecue sauce, sriracha, rice vinegar
  • buffalo sauce, onion powder, chili
  • vinegar, maple syrup, mayonnaise and mustard like this creamy balsamic dressing

Second Step: Shred Your Chicken

Using a fork or your hands, shred chicken into small pieces on a cutting board.

Try to avoid big chunks as they take much longer to dry.

If you prefer flavorful chicken, pick from one of the suggested marinades and submerge your shredded chicken into it. Leave in the fridge for about 3 to 4 hours to marinate and get the flavors into the cooked chicken.

If you prefer, you can use the marinade for raw meat and cook it that way.

Third Step: Dehydrate

Start layering sliced chicken strips onto a dehydrator tray, ensuring they do not overlap.

Place all the trays on top of each other and close the lid.

Set the dehydrator to 60 degrees Celsius or 145 degrees Fahrenheit.

Dehydrate the chicken for 6 to 8 hours until the pieces are fully dry.

Swap trays with chicken every 2 hours, ensuring uniformed drying. Once it is done, let the chicken cool before storing it.
