Stir a pinch of stevia powder in your morning coffee or tea as a sugar substitute, as I always do. It dissolves quickly, and you will have no problems with calories. It is also perfect for iced beverages like teas and lemonades for a refreshing natural sweetness.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

Stevia powder is a game-changer in sweeteners, as you will never worry about calories again by using this natural sweetener. Save yourself more money from buying store-bought sweeteners and start making homemade powdered stevia.

  • Natural Sweetness – stevia is a plant-based sweetener that adds a delightful sweetness without the guilt of refined sugars.
  • Calorie-Free – unlike sugar, stevia is calorie-free, making it an excellent choice for those watching their calorie intake.
  • DIY – there is something immensely satisfying about creating your kitchen staples. Plus, you have control over the process and the ingredients.

Stevia Powder As A Natural Sweetener

Stevia powder is made of freshly dried stevia leaves, making it a natural sweetener. In my experience of planting stevia every spring, I was shocked by first the lovely taste stevia leaf had. Another surprise was when I realized the powdered version was even ten times sweeter.

It has been my favorite sugar substitute, and I always have it in my pantry. It is the best sweetener if you are on a diet, as it has completely zero calories.

Drying Stevia Leaves

Drying or dehydrating your stevia leaves is essential in making stevia powder, as they must be really dry and crispy to be finely powdered.

There are a lot of ways you can dry your leaves. You can do the common ones like sun-drying, oven-drying, and using the dehydrator. In my case, I used a manual process to spread the leaves onto a paper towel and let them dry naturally.

The leaves take about three days to dry completely, but it is okay if you are not in a rush.

Where To Get Pure Stevia Leaves?

If you do not have your plant at home, you can find stevia leaves in any health food store that commonly has natural and organic products. You can also get those in herbal shops and farmers’ markets.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Substitute for A Jar Of Stevia Powder

If you are looking for a substitute for stevia powder, there are a few options depending on your preferences. Remember that the sweetness intensity may vary, so you might need to adjust the quantity.

Here are some of what I can suggest:

  • Erythritol has a similar sweetness level to stevia and is commonly used in low-carb and sugar-free recipes.
  • Xylitol – xylitol has a sweetness similar to sugar and can be used in a 1:1 ratio. It also has the benefit of being tooth-friendly.
  • Monk Fruit Sweetener – derived from monk fruit, this natural sweetener has gained popularity. It is often used as a 1:1 substitute for sugar.
  • Honey or Maple Syrup – while these are liquid sweeteners, they can be used in some recipes as a substitute for stevia, especially if you’re not concerned about the additional calories.

What to Use Powdered Stevia For?

You can use stevia powder as a sugar substitute in various recipes and dishes. Add a pinch to your cranberry juice for a bit of sweetness. You can use it for baking pretzelscheesecakes, cookies, muffins, and cakes. It is also perfect for adding to dressings and sauces for a flavor contrast.

Mix it with yogurt for a sweetened treat where you can add dried fruits like cranberriessprinkles or soaked almonds.

How Do I Store This Sweetener?

Store your stevia powder in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, in a cupboard or pantry. Keep it in an airtight container or transfer it to a sealed jar to prevent moisture same as our tomato powder. Close the lid tightly after each use to maintain its freshness and potency.

Proper storage helps preserve the quality of stevia powder for a longer time.

Can I Freeze Powdered Stevia?

Freezing powdered stevia is generally not recommended as the moisture that can result from freezing and thawing may alter the texture and quality of the powder.
