A simple explanation of how they differ is that almond meal is typically coarser and includes the almond skins, resulting in a slightly darker color, while almond flour is made from blanched almonds, which gives it a lighter color.

First Step: Prepare Your Almonds

Prepare your almonds and the blender of your choice.

You can also activate them in water overnight and dry them before use. Just make sure that they are fully dehydrated before you grind them to prevent any clumping from forming.

Second Step: Prepare to Grind

Place the almonds in the Magic Bullet cup and prepare for grinding. Skin adds extra fiber to your meals, which is exactly what we are all looking for.

Third Step: Grind

Start grinding the almonds by pulsing the magic bullet until they reach a fine consistency. Once they start looking powdery like bread crumbs, stop pulsing, remove them from the blender, and check if they are okay with you.

If the consistency of the fine almond meal is perfect, you can store it or use it immediately for your baked goods.

TRICKS AND TIPS:

  • Grinding: Pulse the grinder regularly because if you let it grind longer, it might result in almond butter instead. Just a few pulses until you get the perfect texture.
  • Almond Pulp: You can also make almond meal out of leftover almond pulp from almond milk. This will reduce waste and use up your resources.

A food processor is an excellent investment because you can use it regularly for other recipes, such as almond flour and powdered spices like tomato and garlic powder.

How Do I Store Almond Meal?

To store almond meal, transfer it to an airtight container to maintain freshness and quality. Then, place the container in the refrigerator to extend its shelf life. Ensure the container is tightly sealed to prevent moisture and air from affecting the almond meal’s quality.

Can I Freeze Almond Meal?

Yes. If you want your almond meal to last longer, you can freeze it. Place it in an airtight container or a freezer-safe bag and remove the air before sealing it.

You can label the container with the date and store it in the freezer for up to six months. Thaw the almond meal in the refrigerator overnight before using it in recipes.

    This is a great idea! I just bought a big bag of almonds and I think it’s cheaper to grind them then buy almond flour. I used it in a pie crust this morning. Love it!
