Craving a crispy snack that’s quick to make and full of flavor? These air-fryer-fried pickle chips are the ultimate crunchy snack or easy appetizer. Each tangy pickle chip gets perfectly golden brown in the air fryer without the need to deep fry. If you love fried pickles, this air fryer version brings all the flavor with less mess.
Some afternoons, I just want something crunchy to snack on while I catch up on my favorite show, and chips don’t always cut it anymore. I had a jar of pickles and decided to run them through the air fryer just to switch things up. They came out so crispy and tangy that I ended up making a second batch before the episode was even over. Now they’re my go-to when I want something to munch on without a lot of effort.
Perfect Crispy Appetizer
Fried pickle chips are a perfect starter, like feta cheese egg appetizer and onion rings. The air fryer helps them stay crispy without all the deep-frying hassle. Serve them hot and watch them disappear fast.
Dill Pickle as Chips
Pickles can be made into chips by slicing them and cooking them until they’re crispy. They still taste like pickles, just crunchier, kind of like a salty snack. It’s an easy and fun way to eat something you already like.
Why Pair with Dipping Sauce
Dipping sauce adds a creamy, flavorful contrast to the sharp bite of the pickles. Ranch, spicy mayo, or even blue cheese dip can make each bite even better. It’s the perfect final touch that pulls the whole appetizer together.
How To Make Air Fryer Fried Pickles Chips
Crunchy, savory, and just the right amount of tang, air fryer fried pickle chips are the best. All you need is your favorite pickles, a quick breading mix, and a few minutes in the air fryer for a crispy treat without the mess of deep frying.
Kitchen Gadgets:
- Air Fryer: Cooks your pickle chips to crispy, golden perfection with minimal oil.
- Tong Clippers: Makes flipping and moving the pickles clean and easy without disturbing the coating.
- Containers: Handy for organizing your dredging stations for flour, egg, and breading.
Ingredients:
- Sliced Pickles: These tangy rounds are the star of the show, bringing all the bold, briny flavor.
- Coconut Flour: A light, alternative base that helps the coating stick and adds a subtle sweetness.
- Egg: Binds the flour and breading to each pickle slice for a crisp outer layer.
- Breading: Brings the satisfying crunch that takes these pickles over the top.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS WITH STEPS FOR THIS AIR FRYER RECIPE
First Step: Gather All Ingredients
Grab everything you need: pickles, coconut flour, eggs, and a wholesome breading mix. Drain the pickles well and cut them into rounds or spears for easy coating. Preheat your air fryer to 400°Fahrenheit (200°Celsius) so it’s hot and ready.

Second Step: Light Coconut Flour Coating
Gently coat each pickle slice in coconut flour for a light, grain-free base. This helps the next layers stick better and adds extra crispness. Be sure every piece is lightly dusted before moving on.

Third Step: Dip in Egg Wash
Whisk your eggs in a bowl until smooth. Dip the coconut-coated pickles into the egg, making sure each one is fully covered. This helps the final coating hold on tight during air frying.
Fourth Step: Add the Crunch
Roll the egg-coated pickles in your breading mix. Press gently to help the coating stick. Line them up in your air fryer basket in a single layer for even crisping.

Fifth Step: Air Fry to Crisp
Air fry the breaded pickles at 400°Fahrenheit (200°Celsius) with a cook time of 5 minutes. They should start to look golden and crispy on the outside. Don’t overcrowd the basket so the air can circulate properly.

Sixth Step: Flip for Even Cooking
Using tongs, flip each pickle halfway through to crisp both sides. Return to the air fryer and cook for another 3 minutes until golden brown all around. Drain on a paper towel and serve hot with your favorite clean dip, and enjoy the crunchy, tangy bite.
Zuzana’s Kitchen Notes:
The first batch I made had a coating that half-slid off during air frying, and I could not figure out why until I realized I had not dried the pickle slices thoroughly enough before the coconut flour went on. Pickle brine is acidic and wet, and even a small amount of surface moisture left on each slice prevents the coconut flour from adhering properly, which means the egg wash has nothing solid to grip and the whole coating loosens in the heat. For another snack where drying before coating makes exactly the same difference to the finished crunch, my pan-fried dill pickle chips cover the same principle with a completely different cooking method.
- Preheat your air fryer before adding the pickle chips to ensure they cook evenly and get crispy.
- Use a light coating of oil spray on the chips to help the breadcrumbs crisp up without making them soggy.
- Don’t overcrowd the basket; cook in small batches to allow hot air to circulate and crisp every chip perfectly.
- Flip the pickle chips halfway through cooking for an even golden-brown finish on both sides.
- Panko bread crumbs can be an option for breading.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What to Serve With Air Fryer Fried Pickles Recipe?
Air fryer fried pickles go great with creamy dipping sauces like ranch that you can make from dry ranch seasoning or spicy mayo. They also pair well with club sandwiches or as a side to your favorite salmon avocado salsa. Adding a fresh high-protein chicken salad or crispy fries can complete the meal perfectly.
Store air-fried pickles in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep them crispy for up to 2 days. Avoid sealing them while still warm, as moisture can make them soggy. To re-crisp, heat them briefly in the air fryer before serving.
Can I Freeze Pickle Chips?
Freezing pickle chips is possible, but not ideal, as it may affect their crispiness after thawing. If you freeze them, place them in a single layer on a baking sheet before transferring to a freezer bag. Reheat in the air fryer for best results to restore some crunch.
