Cream Cheese Sausage or Bisquick Sausage Balls

There are two popular ways to make sausage balls: using cream cheese or using bisquick baking mix. Cream cheese sausage balls are rich and decadent, providing a unique twist that keeps them moist and flavorful. They’re a great option for those who want a little extra creaminess in their snack.

On the other hand, Bisquick sausage balls are more traditional and rely on the biscuit mix to create a fluffy texture. While both methods yield delicious results, the choice between cream cheese and Bisquick depends on your preference. Try both and see which one you love more.

How To Make Cream Cheese Sausage Balls

Kitchen Gadgets:

  • Mixing Bowl: A large mixing bowl is essential for combining all the ingredients. It gives you enough space to mix without making a mess. You can use glass, metal, or plastic—whatever you have on hand will work.
  • Ice Cream Scoop: This handy tool is perfect for portioning out the sausage mixture into even balls. Using a scoop helps ensure that each sausage ball is the same size, which means they will cook evenly. If you don’t have one, a teaspoon works just as well.
  • Cast Iron Skillet: A cast iron skillet is great for baking your sausage balls. It distributes heat evenly, giving them a nice golden brown color. If you don’t have a cast iron skillet, any baking sheet will do—just line it with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Ingredients:

  • Almond Flour: A great gluten-free option that adds a nutty flavor. If you need a substitute, you can use coconut flour, but you’ll need to adjust the amount since it absorbs more moisture.
  • Sausage: Use your favorite type of sausage. You can go for pork sausage, turkey sausage, or even plant-based options for a healthier choice. Just make sure it’s not too lean, as you want the sausage balls to be flavorful and moist.
  • Cream Cheese: This adds creaminess and helps bind the mixture together. If you want a lighter option, you can substitute it with sour cream or Greek yogurt.
  • Shredded Cheese: Shredded cheddar cheese or sharp cheddar cheese is a popular choice, but feel free to mix it up with mozzarella or pepper jack for a kick.

TRICKS AND TIPS:

Making Cream Cheese Sausage Balls can be a breeze, but here are some tricks and tips to ensure they turn out perfectly every time:

  • Use Room Temperature Ingredients: Allow your cream cheese and ground sausage to come to room temperature before mixing. This makes it easier to combine everything and results in a smoother texture.
  • Don’t Overmix: When combining the ingredients, mix just until everything is combined. Overmixing can lead to tough sausage balls. Aim for a consistent mixture without large chunks.
  • Adjust Seasoning to Taste: Feel free to customize the seasoning. Add your favorite spices or herbs, like garlic powder, onion powder, or even a pinch of red pepper flakes for some heat. Taste the mixture before forming the balls to ensure it has the flavor you want.
  • Make Ahead: You can prepare the sausage balls ahead of time. Form them into balls and refrigerate or freeze them. Just bake them when you’re ready to serve.
  • Experiment with Cheese: While shredded cheese adds great flavor, you can experiment with different types. Cheddar, pepper jack, or even a blend can make your sausage balls stand out.
  • Serve with Dipping Sauce: Improve your sausage balls with a delicious dipping sauce. Consider options like honey mustard, barbecue sauce, or a spicy ranch for extra flavor.
