Why You Will Love This Recipe

  • Easy to Make: You can create rose petal powder for all dishes with just one ingredient.
  • Beautiful Color: The powder’s vibrant purple color makes it a stunning topping for cakes and desserts.
  • Lovely Aroma: The sweet, floral scent of rose petals can turn even simple dishes into something special.

DIY Rose Petal Powder

I decided to make my rose petal powder because I’ve always wanted to try it in my cooking just like this rose water, and now that I’ve done it, I have no regrets. I like using it for my usual rose petal tea in the morning. It adds more floral flavor and I love it.

While many people use rose powder for beauty products like skincare and hair treatments, I’m excited to have it in my pantry as a unique ingredient for my dishes.

How To Choose Roses To Use For This Recipe?

When picking roses to make rose petal powder, go for organic roses without chemicals or pesticides. Choose colorful ones to make your powder look brighter. Also, look for strong-smelling roses to enhance the taste and aroma of your food.

You can use fresh or dried roses, but dried ones are easier to work with and store.

Ways To Dry Roses

  • Air Drying: Gather fresh roses and tie them together at the stems. Hang them upside down in a dry, dark place with good airflow. It takes about 1-2 weeks for them to fully dry.
  • Oven Drying: Preheat your oven to a low temperature, around 180°F (80°C). Place the roses on a baking sheet in a single layer and dry them in the oven for 1-2 hours, checking regularly until they are dry and crisp.
  • Microwave Drying: Place a few rose petals between layers of paper towels and microwave them in short bursts of 30 seconds until they are dry and brittle. Be careful not to overheat them.

How To Make Rose Petal Powder At Home

Learn how to make your rose petal powder with this step-by-step process I prepared. This recipe is straightforward; you can always look at the video I also prepared to watch.

Kitchen Gadgets:

  • Magic Bullet Blender: I have used a magic bullet blender for this recipe since I am not making a large batch. If you want to make some for a longer time, you can use bigger blenders or a food processor.

Ingredients:

  • Dried Rose Petals: If you have fresh roses at home, you can dry them yourself, but if you do not, you can find them in grocery stores.

First Step: Prepare Dried Roses

First, prepare your dried roses and the blender you will be using. Make sure the petals are dried enough for grinding.

Second Step: Pluck Out the Petals

Separate the petals from the buds and seeds in the middle of the roses and place them in a bowl or directly into the blender. It is essential to do this process because we will only be using the petals. Buds or seeds will make your powder much darker.

Third Step: Grind

Once the petals are ready, grind them in the magic bullet blender. Pulse a few times until you notice them turning into a fine powder.

Fourth Step: Check the Powder

After grinding them into a powder, check if the consistency is okay. You can always add some more pulse if you want a finer one.

TRICKS AND TIPS:

  • Grinder: You can use any blender to grind rose petals. A food processor or coffee grinder will work, but a spice grinder is your best option for a finer powder.
  • Petals: Both fresh and dried petals can be used, but dried petals are easier to store and give a more concentrated flavor.
  • Cleaning: If using fresh petals, rinse them gently to remove dirt or insects, then pat them dry with a paper towel before drying or grinding.
