Crock Pot Honey Garlic Meatballs

These crock pot honey garlic meatballs are the kind of appetizer that gets emptied first at every gathering. Frozen cooked meatballs go into the slow cooker with a simple honey garlic sauce, and a few hours later you have something sticky, savory, and ready to serve straight from the crock with toothpicks on the side.

I made these for the first time when a friend asked me to bring something easy to a last-minute get-together, and I had exactly one bag of frozen meatballs and no real plan. I whisked the sauce together in five minutes, poured it over, and let the slow cooker handle the rest while I got dressed. By the time I came back to the kitchen, the whole bowl smelled like garlic and honey, and it was the first thing gone off the table.

Why Frozen Meatballs Make This So Simple

Frozen cooked meatballs are already seasoned and fully cooked, so the slow cooker only needs to heat them through and let the sauce reduce around them, instead of worrying about cooking raw meat safely over several hours. Cream cheese sausage balls and feta cheese egg appetizers are other bite-sized appetizers.

Whisking the Sauce Smooth Before It Touches the Meatballs

Mixing the ketchup, brown sugar, honey, soy sauce, and garlic in a bowl first ensures the sauce is smooth and evenly combined before it goes near the meatballs, preventing pockets of straight soy sauce or undissolved sugar at the bottom of the crock.

How To Make Honey Garlic Crockpot Meatballs

This honey garlic meatballs recipe uses frozen cooked meatballs coated in a homemade honey garlic sauce and slow-cooked until glossy and fully coated.

Kitchen Gadgets:

  • Crock Pot or Slow Cooker: Gently heats the frozen meatballs and lets the sauce reduce.
  • Mixing Bowl: Combines the ketchup, brown sugar, honey, soy sauce, and garlic into a smooth sauce.
  • Whisk: Blends the sauce ingredients fully.
  • Wooden Spoon or Spatula: Stirs the meatballs gently to coat them evenly without breaking them apart.

Ingredients:

  • Cooked Frozen Meatballs: The recipe’s base. Already seasoned and fully cooked, so the slow cooker only needs to heat them through and let the sauce thicken around them.
  • Ketchup: Gives the sauce its tomato base and a touch of natural sweetness.
  • Brown Sugar: Packed brown sugar adds depth and a slight molasses taste.
  • Honey: Raw honey has a more complex taste than processed honey.
  • Soy Sauce: Adds the savory, salty taste that keeps the sauce from tasting purely sweet.
  • Garlic: Stir minced garlic directly into the sauce.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS WITH STEPS FOR HONEY GARLIC MEATBALLS IN CROCK POT

First Step: Get Everything Measured and Ready

Take the frozen meatballs out of the freezer and have the ketchup, brown sugar, honey, soy sauce, and garlic measured out beside the crock pot. There is no need to thaw the meatballs first.

Second Step: Add the Meatballs and Whisk the Sauce

Add the frozen meatballs to the crock pot, spreading them out evenly. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, honey, soy sauce, and garlic until the mixture is smooth.

Third Step: Pour and Stir to Coat

Pour the honey garlic sauce evenly over the frozen meatballs in the crock pot. Stir gently with a spoon or spatula until every meatball is fully coated and no bare sides are visible through the sauce. If any meatballs are sitting on top without full contact, push them down slightly so the sauce surrounds every piece before the lid goes on.

Fourth Step: Cover and Cook

Place the lid on the crock pot and cook on low for 3 to 4 hours or on high for about 2 hours, stirring once during cooking to keep everything evenly coated. Once heated through and the sauce has thickened slightly, they are ready to serve.

Zuzana’s Kitchen Notes:

The sauce also keeps thickening even after the crock pot switches to keep-warm, so if you are serving these later in the evening, a small splash of water stirred in right before serving loosens it back to the right consistency. For another easy appetizer with a similar coating that needs to stay even from edge to edge, my gluten free onion rings are an option.

  • Add chili flakes or a splash of hot sauce directly to the sauce before pouring if you want background heat without changing the overall sweet-and-savory balance.
  • Reducing the brown sugar slightly makes the sauce less sweet without losing the honey garlic flavor, which is worth trying if you prefer a more savory result.
  • Toothpicks make these easy to serve as a stand-alone appetizer, while a ladle of extra sauce over rice turns the same batch into a simple meal.
  • If you don’t have a slow cooker, combine everything in a pot on the stovetop and heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally so the sauce doesn’t stick to the bottom.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What to Serve With Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Meatballs?

These meatballs work well as part of a wider appetizer spread. Cooking fried green tomatoes adds something crisp and savory alongside the sticky sweetness of the meatballs, and the gluten-free pretzels give guests something sturdy to dip straight into any extra sauce left in the crock.

How Do I Store Crock Pot Honey Garlic Meatballs?

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days in an airtight container. The sauce thickens further as it cools, so a small splash of water when reheating brings it back to a glossy, pourable consistency.

Can I Freeze This Appetizer Recipe?

Yes. Let the meatballs and sauce cool completely before transferring to a freezer-safe container. They keep for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat gently on the stove or in a low oven, stirring occasionally so the sauce comes back together smoothly.
